Living in Florida means one thing is basically guaranteed: sunshine and surprise rain showers. As an Orlando family photographer, I’ve seen it all — the quick pop-up storms, the “100% chance of rain” that never happens, and the tiny sprinkling that comes and goes before you even find parking.

So what happens if it rains (or looks like it might rain) during your scheduled photo session? Here’s exactly how I handle weather, what you can expect from me, and how we still make the magic happen.

1. I Watch the Weather Closely — Hour by Hour

Florida weather changes fast, so I monitor the radar up until your session time. A 70% chance at 10 a.m. can drop to 10% by noon, truly! Instead of canceling days in advance, I wait until we’re closer so we don’t ruin a perfectly good shoot for no reason.

I’ll keep in touch throughout the day with updates, so you’ll always know what I’m thinking.

2. If It’s a Quick Passing Shower, We Wait It Out

Most Florida rain lasts 5–15 minutes. If the radar shows it will pass quickly, we may simply wait it out in the car.
Some of my best lighting ever has been right after a rain shower — soft, glowy, and magical.

3. We Have Backup Options Ready

If the weather looks consistent (not a quick sprinkle), here’s what we can do:

✔ Reschedule to a nearby day

I always prioritize weather reschedules and do my best to get you on my calendar quickly.

✔ Switch the time

Often, moving the session earlier or later solves the problem completely.

✔ Change locations

Some spots offer more coverage or tree cover if we want to stay outdoors.
Or, we can use a studio option if you prefer to stay completely dry.

You’ll never be left stressing — I guide you through every decision.

4. Safety + Comfort Come First

If there’s lightning, heavy rain, or unsafe conditions, we absolutely reschedule. Your safety (and your kids’ comfort!) matters way more than pushing through bad weather.

5. Overcast Weather Is Actually Gorgeous

Many people worry when the sun disappears, but cloudy skies photograph beautifully!
No harsh shadows. No squinting.
Just soft, even light that gives your images a dreamy look.

So if it’s just cloudy, we’re actually in perfect shape.

Whether we reschedule or shift plans, I guarantee that you will still get your session and your photos will still be bright, joyful, and beautiful.
