Sunset, laughter, and sandy toes… what more could you ask for?
I had the best time with this sweet couple during their sunset engagement session at Cocoa Beach. We’re counting down the days until their summer wedding in Illinois, and this session made me even more excited to be the one capturing their big day. They were so fun and easygoing and totally up for anything. We had to pivot plans last minute due to weather, but it worked out perfectly.
We originally planned to meet farther north, but the radar had other plans. We quickly made the call to move the session south to Cocoa Beach to dodge the rain, and it couldn’t have worked out better. The skies cleared, the sunset was magic, and we had so much fun playing in the waves and soaking in the salty breeze.
Why Cocoa Beach is Perfect for Engagement Photos
If you’re dreaming of a beach engagement session on Florida’s east coast, Cocoa Beach is one of my favorite spots. It’s easy to access, has a laid-back vibe, and gives you the classic boardwalk meets ocean feel with lots of open space for running, spinning, and snuggling in the sand.
Pro tip: east coast beaches like Cocoa are best shot at sunset, not sunrise. Even though the sun technically rises over the ocean, sunset offers softer light behind the dunes and lets us take advantage of golden hour without the early wake-up call.
What to Wear for Your Beach Engagement Session
This couple nailed their beach look with light, breathable outfits that moved with the breeze and didn’t mind a little sand. For beach sessions, I always recommend:
- Neutral or pastel tones that complement the ocean and sky
- Flowy dresses or linen shirts that look beautiful in motion
- Barefoot or sandals (or just go for sandy toes)
- Avoid heavy patterns and keep it simple to let the love shine
Also, bring a towel and maybe a change of clothes if you’re open to getting a little wet at the end.
Making the Most of a Cloudy Forecast
One of my favorite tips is not to stress if the weather looks iffy. Cloudy skies create gorgeous, even light. And sometimes, like with this session, a location swap can completely save the day. Trust your photographer (hi, that’s me) to help make the call, and you might just end up with some of your favorite photos ever.
Can’t Wait for the Wedding
I’m so honored to be capturing this couple’s wedding this July in Illinois. After our beach session together, I just know it’s going to be filled with joy, laughter, and the same kind of easy, beautiful energy we had at Cocoa Beach.
If you’re planning your own engagement photos and love the idea of a relaxed, sun-soaked beach session, let’s make it happen.
