As an Orlando-based photographer, I recently had the pleasure of capturing a breathtaking engagement session on the serene Burkes Beach at Hilton Head Island. The experience was nothing short of magical, with the soft hues of sunrise casting a romantic glow on the engaged couple. This intimate session set the stage for what promises to be a beautiful wedding in November at the Marriott on Hilton Head Beach.

The couple engages in a spontaneous run into the ocean on the beach, their joyous movements captured against the canvas of a sky painted in warm pastels by the sunrise.

You know it is going to be a good shoot when we pop out of the car talking about true detective and we were just laughing together the whole shoot. They were up for all the poses too!! This is why I love engagement shoots. We can practice our poses and find the ones we love so we can speed through them on the wedding day. On a typical wedding day we only have about a half an hour for your portraits give or take, they get more since they are doing a first look and budgeting more time for that. (Gold star). And now they know my drunken walk request, the cute running shot, the pulling shot, the prom pose yah know those cool, but strange pose names, IYKYK.

The Beauty of Burkes Beach: Burkes Beach, located on Hilton Head Island, provided a stunning backdrop for the engagement session. The pristine sandy shores, coupled with the gentle waves of the Atlantic Ocean, created a picture-perfect setting for capturing the essence of love. The decision to shoot at sunrise allowed for soft, diffused lighting, adding an extra touch of romance to the images.

Tips for a Sunrise Beach Session:

  1. Timing is Crucial: Sunrise sessions offer a unique quality of light that is unmatched. Plan to start shooting about 30 minutes before the scheduled sunrise time to capture the magical moments as the sun emerges on the horizon.
  2. Dress Appropriately: Wear light, neutral colors to complement the beach setting. Flowing dresses and lightweight fabrics can add a touch of elegance while allowing for comfortable movement.
  3. Fill out your Questionnaire: You can write down any info I might need for the shoot. It makes it a great reference piece.
  4. Utilize the Golden Hour: The period shortly after sunrise, often referred to as the golden hour, offers warm and flattering light. That’s my favorite time to make portraits on the beach.
  5. Incorporate Props: Consider bringing along props like a cozy blanket, a bouquet of flowers, or even a beach-themed element to add visual interest to the photos.
  6. Be Mindful of the Tide: Timing the shoot around low tide can provide more space for creative compositions. But not always necessary

Looking Ahead to the Wedding: After that engagement session, I am eagerly anticipating their upcoming wedding at the Marriott on Hilton Head Beach. The familiarity with the location and the couple’s comfort in front of the camera will undoubtedly contribute to capturing beautiful and authentic moments on their special day.

In the embrace of each other and the sunrise, the couple shares a heartfelt moment, framed by the vast expanse of the Atlantic Ocean stretching out behind them.

Photographing an engagement session at sunrise on Burkes Beach, Hilton Head Island, was a truly enchanting experience. By embracing the natural beauty of the location and leveraging the unique qualities of morning light, I was able to create some epic images and really get a feel for my couple. For anyone considering a sunrise beach session, these tips can help enhance the overall experience and result in stunning photographs that capture the essence of love in a breathtaking setting.
