Orlando Beach Photo Shoot

Beach portraits are one of my favorite ways to photograph families, especially when little ones are involved. The open space, natural light, and ocean breeze set the perfect backdrop for playful, candid memories. I normally photograph this sweet family when they come to Disney World, but this time we met up in beautiful Naples, Florida while they were vacationing. It was the perfect change of scenery and such a fun shoot with their extended family.
If you’re planning a beach session with your own family, especially with toddlers, teens, or a mix of ages. Here are my top five tips to help it go smoothly and get gorgeous, genuine images.
1. Dress for Comfort and Movement

The beach is made for movement, and your outfits should be too. I always recommend light, breathable fabrics in neutral or soft tones that photograph beautifully in natural light. For kids, keep things simple and avoid anything itchy or restrictive. Think linen shirts, cotton dresses, and barefoot toes in the sand. I love their use of Lilly here too. It looks amazing on the beach.
2. Keep Snacks and Water Handy

Little ones can get tired or cranky fast, especially with all that running around and the sound of the waves in the background. Bring a small bag with snacks, drinks, and maybe even a towel or blanket for quick breaks. Happy kids make for happy photos.
3. Plan Around the Best Light (and Naps)

Sunrise and sunset are the golden hours for a reason. The light is soft and flattering, which is ideal for portraits. If you’re working with young kids, sunset sessions often work best after naps and dinner. A little flexibility with timing can go a long way in getting the most natural smiles. Our sunsets in the summer is around 8/8:30pm so do dinner prior to the beach. Sunrise is around 6:15am in the summer which sometimes, sadly is great for our early risers. (When the time changes, it is a bit different start time like the pm is 4:30.)
4. Let Go of Perfect

One of the best things about beach photos is how relaxed and candid they can be. Let your kids explore, splash a little, twirl in their dresses, and climb on dad’s shoulders. These in-between moments are often the ones you’ll treasure most. I’ll guide you through some posed shots, but I always leave space for fun and spontaneity.
5. Trust Your Photographer
I’ve worked with families all over Central Florida and beyond, and I’ve photographed this particular family year after year. When we trust each other, magic happens. I’ll help you choose the right time and location, guide your family through natural poses, and capture the love and connection that’s already there.
